WECA VE Sessions

VE sessions are held on the second Thursday of every month at 7 PM at the Westchester County Fire Training Center, 4 Dana Road, Valhalla, NY in classroom 3.

Park in the Walker Place lot, walk down the stairs past the trailers to the rear entrance of the building to classroom 3.

We monitor 147.060 with PL 114.8 or 914-755-7908.

Unlicensed candidates who walk in to an in-person exam session should ensure that they have an FRN prior to arriving at the testing venue.

MANDATORY BEFORE THE EXAM

FCC Registration Number (FRN)

Examinees are required by the FCC to submit their FRN with their license application form. New license applicants must create an FCC user account and register their Social Security Number (SSN) in the FCC Commission Registration System (CORES before attending exam sessions. Registrants will be assigned an FRN which will be used in all license transactions with the FCC. For instructions on how to register your SSN and receive an FRN from the FCC, visit the CORES Registration page and the FCC's Registration instructions page. Per FCC rules, a valid email address is also mandatory on the application form to receive FCC correspondence, including the official copy of your Amateur Radio license.

Exam fee

$15 is the current test fee. We prefer the exact amount in cash, but a check made out to Robert Casino is also ok. If you are under 18, the fee is currently $5.

UNDER-18 CANDIDATES

  • A REDUCED EXAM FEE of $5 is charged for any exams for under-18 candidates.

  • Under-18 candidates may also apply for reimbursement of the $35 FCC fee via the ARRL Youth Licensing Grant Program.

In-person examination requirements

  • A legal photo id (driver license or passport preferred). See What to Bring to an ARRL Exam Session for additional information on acceptable photo IDs and non-photo IDs for adults and students/minors.
  • A calculator with the memory erased and formulas cleared is allowed. Smartphones and all similar electronic devices with a calculator capability, may NOT be used.
  • If applicable, bring a printed copy of your Amateur Radio license or be able to show proof of the license in the official FCC database.

FCC FEE PAYMENT

As of April 19, 2022 the FCC has instituted a $35 fee for new license applications. You will pay this fee directly to the FCC upon succesful completion of the exam and acceptance by the FCC of your license application.
